Ghosting in print

HDP technology

High Definition printing delivers the highest image quality layered on the highest functioning cards. HDP Film fuses to the surface of proximity and smart cards, conforming to ridges and indentations formed by embedded electronics. The retransfer card printer prints on a so-called retransfer film using dye-sublimation to transfer the colours onto the film and after they transfer the image from the film onto the card surface by heat. The image on the film is slightly larger than the card achieving a perfect over-to-edge printing. Retransfer printing technology is called as high definition printing HDP technology by Fargo. Card printer using HDP technology is called HDP card printer and the retransfer film is HDP film.- Graphics requirements

DTC technology - Direct To Card

Card printers using DTC technology are called DTC card printers. DTC card printer prints images by heating a print ribbon beneath a thermal print head, resulting in the transfer of color from the ribbon to a blank card.
DTC technology uses two printing methods to achieve its incredible image quality:
Dye-sublimation prints smooth, continuous-tone images that look truly photographic. A dye-based ribbon is partitioned by multiple color panels, which are grouped in a repeating series of colors along the ribbon’s length. A print head containing hundreds of thermal elements heats the dyes, which vaporize and diffuse into the card surface. By combining colors and varying the heat, dye-sublimation is capable of producing up to 16.7 million colors.
Resin thermal transfer uses a single-color ribbon to print sharp black text and crisp bar codes, which can be read by both infrared and visible-light scanners. - Graphics requirements
